We have had so many beautiful new fabrics arrive recently, which means a heap of new project ideas! Here are just a few of the pieces we are looking forward to making up in our new fabrics.
Printed Denims
We love these new printed denims, they are great summer prints but can also transition into the cooler weather as well.
They are perfect for jeans, overalls, jackets and more! We would love to make them up in a pair of Dawn Jeans or the Taylor Jacket. The only question is which print to use? Sunflowers or the Funky Camo.
Don’t forget to add some jeans needles for your machine when sewing denim.
If you want something a little less patterned but still bright and colourful, we suggest our Cotton Drill, it’s a similar weight and makes a great alternative.
Cotton Lawns
Cotton lawn is a great summer fabric, light weight, breathable and with a crisp finish. We have a heap of new prints in store & online at the moment, so there’s something for everyone.
One of my favourite patterns for light-weight cottons is the Zoe Dress, a super easy summer wear. We even have a sew-along post all about this pattern.
Pictured to the right are three of our new prints, Ticker Tape, Rad Roses & Flourishing Field. All three are perfect for summer dresses and tops.
If you want to line your cotton lawn makes we suggest Cotton Voile as it is light weight and breathable.
Rayon Prints
Rayons are a great fabric for the warmer weather as they breath nicely and have amazing drape.
We have lots of new rayon prints available, including the Budding Blooms print to the left, available in green and coral.
With such excellent drape rayons are great for dresses, including McCalls 8104, a button up summer dress. Some of our other favourite patterns to make up in rayon include the Sudley Dress and Viola Skirt.
Rayons can be more slippery to sew with than cottons or linens, so we suggest investing in some nice sharp pins – Our most popular ones are these – so that the fabric doesn’t slip as much and the pins glide through nicely.
Cotton & Linen Blends
Cotton and Linen are a great blend together, super breathable, soft and a great light-mid weight. We have had two new prints just arrive Folklore and Melted, both include vibrant prints in warm tones.
I’m looking forward to making up the Flynn Jacket in a linen as a light-weight spring & summer cover-up. But our linen cottons are also great for tops, dresses, skirts, pants and more!
If you are after a plain Linen & Cotton blend we have a lot in store and a few online as well, including A-999.
